| component | any of the parts of a machine, such as an engine or computer |
| compose | to put together, especially to write, as in literature or in music |
| composition | the structure of something, how something is put together. |
| depose | to remove from office forcefully; in law, to bear witness |
| exponent | a number or symbol indicating a particular power or quantity; a person who supports something |
| expound | explain what is difficult or obscure |
| exposition | an interpretation or explanation, often as an article or commentary |
| impose | to apply authoritatively; to subject upon someone |
| imposition | putting on laying something onto someone, esp. a demand or burden |
| imposter | a deceiver, one who takes on a false identity in order to deceive others |
| juxtapose | place two or more things side by side or close to one another |
| proposition | act of proposing something; something put up for consideration; in logic, a premise or statement to be proved |
| thesis | the premise to be proved in an argument or paper |
| antithesis | opposite, a complete contrast |
| epithet | a descriptive word or phrase for a person or thing; sometimes used offensively |
| hypothesis | an unproven idea or theory that is proposed, often leading to further investigation |
| parenthesis | a word, clause, or sentence inserted into a passage and set off by brackets; a rhetorical digression |
| photosynthesis | the process by which plants use sunlight to change carbon dioxide and water into food and oxygen |
| polythetic | a class of things having many, but not all properties in common |
| prosthesis | an artificial replacement for a part of the body |
| synthesis | the act of putting together parts or elements to make a complex whole; can also refer to what has been put together |
| synthetic | a chemical produced by artificial combination of parts into a whole in imitation of a natural substance |
