Electric charge

Chapter 1

QuestionAnswer
What is electrically neutral? The object with equal amount of two kinds of charges is called electrically neutral.
What is electrically charged? The object with imbalance amount of two kinds of charges is called electrically charged.
What is electrostatics? The study of electric charges at rest under the action of electric forces is called electrostatics.
What is the charge of an electron and proton? 1.6 * 10^-19C
What is the mass of an electron? 9.1 * 10^-31
What is the mass of a proton? 1.67 * 10^-27
What is electric monopole? An isolated single charge is called an electric monopole.
What is electric dipole? Equal positive and negative charges having constant separation between them is called electric dipole.
What is electric quadrupole? Two oppositely directed dipole close to each other is called electric quadrupole.
What are conductors? The materials through which charges can easily flow are called conductors. Example: Copper and Aluminum
What are semi-conductors? The partial conductors are called semi-conductors. Example; Silicon and germanium
What are insulators? The materials through which charges cannot flow are called insulators. Example:Glass and Plastic
What is Coulomb's law? The electric force between two point charges is directly proportional to the product of magnitude of charges and inversely proportional to the square of distance between them.
What is radio active decay? In this process, a nucleus transforms into different type of nucleus.
What is annihilation of matter? In this process, an electron having charge -e and its anti-particle called positron having charge +e annihilate in such a way that they transform into two gamma rays.
What is pair production? In this a gamma ray transform into a positron and an electron.
What is charge quantization? When a physical quantity exists in discrete packets, it is called quantized. Example; Charge, energy of photons, frequency of vibration of stretched string and angular momentum of electrons in an orbit.
What is charge conservation? A physical quantity is said to be conserved, when total amount of physical quantity remain constant before and after change. Example: Charge and energy are conserved in pair production and annihilation of matter.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
