Quarter 1 Math Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| Place | The location of a digit inside a number |
| Value | How much a digit is worth |
| Digit | A number 0-9 |
| Word Form | A number written out using words (ex: three hundred twenty-one) |
| Expanded Form | Adding the values of each digit in a number (ex: 1,000+300+50+6) |
| Standard Form | A number written out using digits (ex: 1,456) |
| Base 10 Form | A number show using base 10 blocks |
| Comparing Numbers | The method to determine if numbers are greater than, less than or equal to each other |
| Greater than | The first number is a larger number than the second number |
| Less than | The first number is a smaller number than the second number |
| Equal to | The numbers are the same; they have the same value |
| Estimate | Not an exact number; a rounded number or an educated guess |
| Addends | The numbers being added together |
| Sum | The answer to an addition problem |
| Difference | The answer to a subtraction problem |
| Inverse | Using the opposite operation to check your work (ex: after you add, use subtraction to check your work) |
| Round | To simplify a number by changing it to its nearest ten, hundred, or thousands place |
| Algorithm | A math problem, (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) |
| Compatible Numbers | Numbers that are easy to add, subtract, multiply or divide |
