Statistics and Graphing vocabulary

x-axis the horizontal axis of a graph

coordinate plane a plane containing two perpendicular axes intersecting at a point called the origin
coordinate pair used to show position on a coordinate plane
measures of central tendency mean, median, and mode
mean average of a number of different amounts
mode the amount that occurs the most
median the middle value of an ordered set of values
range from the lowest score to the highest score
outlier a value far away from most of teh rest in a set of data
stem and leaf plot a data display that shows groups of data arranged by place value
line plot a number line showing a dot or mark over the position corresponding to eac number
frequency table table to collect the number of times a particular item appears in a set of data
line graph uses line to join points which represent the data
circle graph graph using a divided circle where each section represents part of the total
data points organized in graphs or charts for analysis including facts, numbers, or measurements
