Sentence Types
All the different sentence types.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Dependent Clause | A clause that cannot stand alone as a complete thought because it does not express a complete thought. *THIS IS NOT A SENTENCE* |
| Independent Clause | A clause that can stand on its own and is a complete thought. *THIS IS A SENTENCE* |
| Simple Sentence | Consists of a single independent clause that includes a subject and a single predicate. |
| Compound Sentence | Joins two independent clauses with the help of a comma and a coordinating conjunction or just a semicolon. |
| Complex Sentence | A single independent clause and a dependent clause. *ALWAYS CONTAINS SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS* |
| Compound-Complex Sentence | Combines two or more independent clauses with at least one independent clause. |
