Sentence Types

TermDefinition
Dependent Clause A clause that cannot stand alone as a complete sentence cause it doesn't express a complete thought
Independent Clause A clause that can stand on its own and is a complete thought
Simple Sentence A sentence with only one clause
Compound Sentence A sentence with two or more clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction
Complex Sentence A sentence with two or more clauses joined by a subordinating conjunction
Compound- Complex Sentence A sentence with three or more clauses joined by a coordinating and subordinating conjunction
FANBOYS A group of conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so)
