SS Govt vocabulary

TermDefinition
government The system of rules, or laws that a group of people living together in a country, state, city, or community has to follow, as well as, the people who make them.
democracy A government run by the people, and citizens can have a vote in how the government is run.
Constitution The framework of the U.S. Government; the guidelines or highest law for the people of the USA
citizen A person who is a member of a community, state, or nation and has the rights and protections of that country
Legislative Branch This is also called Congress; made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate
Executive Branch This branch of government is in charge of making sure U.S. laws are executed, or followed by the people.
President The leader, or Commander-in-Chief; head of state of the USA
Vice President The advisor to the President; This person becomes President if the President cannot perform his/her job or duties
Judicial Branch This branch of government is made up of judges and courts; interprets the laws
Supreme Court This branch of government is made up of judges and courts; interprets and protect the laws
Judge A person who makes the final decision in a court case, and is responsible for applying the law and keeping people safe.
Cabinet The leaders of the framework, of the U.S. Government team; These men and women are the highest law
vote To make a choice in an election or other group decision.
