Where is Odysseus currectly? Who is listening to him tell his tale? -the island of Pheacia -he tell the story to the Phaeacians a beautiful princess and her father King Alcinous
how does Odysseys define himself? How does he fell about his home? -strong and motivated to return home -his home is the best place on earth
Who are the Lotus Eaters? What does the Lotus do to those who eat it? -a group of people who live on the Lotus flower -they lose their desire to return home -forget tehir home and stay on the coastline forever
How are the Cyclopes portrayed? In what sort of land do they live in? fierce and uncivilized, lacking the social structures and laws - not properly tend field, mountain cave, land is a desreted island with a natural harbor -tending their own flocks, isolated -self-sufficent, barbaric, hostile to outsiders
How does Odysseus lie to the Cyclopes? 1. his ship broke after crashung on rocks 2. his name is Nohbdy
How does Odysseus escape the cave? 1. offers wine to make him drunk. 2. says name is "Nobody." 3. is asleep, wooden stake into his eye, blinding him. 4. Polyphemus calls "Nobody" is attacking him, so other Cyclopes do not help 5. tying themselves to the undersides of sheep.
What does Athena instruct Odysseus to do when she meets him on the shores of Ithaca? Where does he go? -disguise himself as a beggar -Tells him to seek shelter with Eumaeus, a swineherd, in a hut
When Odysseus first reveals his identity to Telemachus, how does Telemachus react? -thunderstruck -incredulious -suspects he is a god in disguise
