Parts of an Expression Vocabulary

TermDefinition
A symbol, often a letter, that represents an unknown value in math. Variable
A property stating that order does not matter in addition or multiplication. Commutative
A mathematical statement that shows two expressions are equal. Equation
A small number written above and to the right of a base number, showing how many times the base is multiplied by itself. Exponent
