Who are the congressmen from our state that represent you? The AL state senators are Katie Britt (R) and Tommy Tubberville (R) AL District 3 Representative is Mike Rogers (R)
Who are the leaders of congress? Titles and names. Speaker of the House: (currently standing in until one is selected) Mike Johnson (R) President of the Senate: JD Vance (R) President Pro Tempore: Charles Grassley (R)
What can the Speaker of the House do that makes them powerful? They can set time limits on debates and assign representatives to committees. Has lots of influence on which bills pass through the House. THIRD MOST POWERFUL PERSON IN GOVERNMENT.
What power does the President of the Senate have? No power unless there is a tie. They cannot participate in debates.
Which political party is the President of the Senate apart of? Republicans
Which political party is the current Speaker of the House apart of? Republicans
How long does a senators term last? 6 years: unlimited terms
How long does a Representatives term last? 2 years: unlimited terms
Who becomes President if something was to happen to both the President and Vice President? Speaker of the House
Why is it important for the branches of government to balance each other out? To prevent one branch from becoming to powerful and potentially taking away peoples rights.
What are the jobs of each of the branches in terms of laws in the country? Leg: Make the laws Executive: Enforces the laws Judicial: Interpret the laws
How can the Executive and Judicial Branch balance the power of the Legislative Branch? E: Can veto laws, J: Judges can declare laws passed are unconstitutional.
How can the Legislative and Judicial Branch balance the power of the Executive Branch? L: Can override a Presidential veto with 2/3 vote in each Chamber, J: Can declare Executive Actions Unconstitutional
How can the Executive and Legislative Brach balance the power of the Judicial Branch? E: The President can appoint judges to the Supreme Court. L: Senate has to approve Presidential appointments to the courts
Who is the current President of the Senate? Besides being President of the Senate, what is his other role in the Federal Government? JD Vance. He is also Vice President of the United States.
