Strategies for working with special needs

| Accommodation | adding adaption to circumstances that cannot be changed for a child with special needs in order to allow the child to be successful |
| Acoustics | the science concerned with the production, control, transmission, reception, and effects of sound: acoustics is critical for children being able to listen |
| Assistive technology | any item that supports a child's ability to participate actively in his or her home, childcare program, school, or other community settings |
| Disability | any condition of the body or mind that makes it more difficult for the person with the condition to do certain activities and interact with the world around them |
| Inclusion | a term used to refer to an education setting in which children with and without special needs are integrated |
| Modifications | ways in which a teacher changes the environment or their teaching style to enhance a special needs child's learning ability |
| 0verstimulation | when children are swamped by more experiences, sensations, noise and activity than they can cope with |
| Special needs | a child has special educational needs if they have a learning problem or disability that make it more difficult for them to learn than most children their age |
| Visual aids | instructional devices which are used in the classroom to encourage learning and make it easier and motivating |
