Types of Forces

physics A

TermDefinition
definition of force A push pull or twist between at least two objects
normal force support - when two objects are touching, and one object supports the other
applied force motion - when two objects are touching and a force is used to create motion or movement
tension force wire or cable - force being used through a wire, cable, rope, string or similar material
gravitational force attraction to center - force of a large object attracting a smaller object
frictional force resistance to motion - force used by one object to stop or slow the movement of another object
air resistance Force of air molecules pushing on an object
spring force Force exerted by a stretched or compressed spring
contact force when objects are touching
action at distance force force between objects that are NOT touching
