Colloquial/ Colloquialism Slang or informalities in speech or writing not generally accepted in formal writing.
Coherence Clear and intelligible.
Connotation Connotations may involve ideas, emotions, and attitudes
Denotation Strict literal dictionary definition of a word.
Diction Diction combined with with syntax, figurative language, creates authors style.
Ethos Ethical appeals that makes use of what an audience values and believes to be good or true
Euphemism Less direct, less offensive than anither phrase
Hyperbole Exaggeration
Hypophora One and the same speaker raising and responding to own question.
Imagery Descriptions which impress images of images of things to mind.
Academic diction Use of Scholarly words (non slang).
Ad Populum Fallacy Attempt to win popular assent to a conclusion
Allegory Using character ot story to symbolically represent abstraction in addition to literal meaning.
Alliteration Repetition of sounds (She sells sea shells)
Allusion A direct or indirect reference to something commonly known.
ambiguity Multiple meanings either intention or unintentional of a word.
Analogy Similarity or comparison of 2 different things or the relationship between them.
Anaphora Same (Word or Words) repeated repeated at the begining of 2 or more lines.
Anectdote Detailing particular parts of an interesting episode or event.
Apostrophe Figure of speech that directly adresses an absent or imaginary person.
