QuestionAnswer
What is the perceptual process? Process by which stimuli in our environment leads to behavioral responses
What might be a sample 7 stage process in visual perception? Visual stimuli -> light transformation -> receptor processes -> neural processing-> perception -> recognition -> action
Differentiate distal from proximal stimuli: Distal - object existing independent of our perception Proximal- pattern of energy from these object that is transduced into neural signals
What is psychophysics? Study of the relationship between sensory experience and the physical stimuli that elicit those experiences
What was Gustav Fechner’s role in the development of psychophysics ? Founder of the field, laid the groundwork using his laws…
What were Fechner’s 3 central problems? 1. Detection 2. Discrimination 3. Scaling
Describe method of constant stimuli Method used in psychophysics to measure a subject’s sensory threshold- esp absolute threshold
What is threshold stimulus level: Minimum level at which the stimulus is detected:
Describe the assumption of discrete threshold in Fechner’s method to detect absolute threshold. Observer can be in a detect/non detect stage they either detect or don’t detect stimulus

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
