Figurative Language

| What is a simile? | A comparison of two things using the words like or as. |
| What is a metaphor? | A direct comparison of two things (does not use the words like or as). |
| What is personification? | When an object is given human qualities. |
| What is onomatopoeia? | A word that sounds like the sound it makes. |
| What is alliteration? | It is repeating sounds at the beginning of multiple words. |
| What is hyperbole? | An extreme exaggeration. |
| What is an idiom? | A common saying with a meaning completely different from its dictionary meaning. |

| What is symbolism? | something concrete that stands for something else, like an idea or emotion |
