| luster | a physical property that describes how an element’s surface interacts with light |
| malleability | a physical property of an object allowing it to be reshaped with bending or cracking |
| metalloids | elements with properties similar to metals and nonmetals |
| metals | elements that are mostly solids at room temperature, have luster, and are good conductors of heat and electricity |
| nonmetals | elements that are solids, liquids, or gases at room temperature, dull luster, and poor conductors of heat and electricity |
| periodic table | an organized table of all the chemical elements grouped by properties |
