6th Prop of Matter
TEKS 6.6A and 6.6D
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| density | the relationship between the mass of the substance and how much space it takes up (volume); more dense sinks in less dense |
| fluids | no fixed shape, flow, gases and liquids |
| gas | a state of matter where particles are widely spaced, move rapidly, and have no fixed shape or volume, meaning they completely fill the container they are in |
| liquid | a state of matter where the particles have enough energy to move freely, allowing it to flow and take the shape of its container, while still maintaining a relatively constant volume |
| solid | a state of matter where the particles are closely packed together (fixed shape and volume) and contain the least amount of kinetic energy |
| kinetic energy of atoms | the motion of the atoms/particles that makeup matter; determines the state it is in (solid, liquid, gas) |
| volume | the amount of space that a substance or object takes up |
