How are living things adapted to their environment?

| adaptation | any body part, behavior, or physiological capability that increases and animal's ability to survive in its environment |
| behavior | the way an organism reacts to changes in its internal conditions or external environment |
| behavioral adaptation | an inherited behavior that helps an organism survive |
| biome | a group of ecosystems that share similar climates and typical organisms |
| camouflage | animal that blends in with the surrounding environment |
| carnivore | a consumer that eats only animals |
| conservation | protecting and preserving natural resources and the environment |
| counter shading | coloration in which dark is on top and light is on the bottom |
| ecosystem | a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment |
| endangered species | a species whose numbers are so small that the species is at risk for extinction |
| environment | the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal or plant lives or operates |
| extinct | no longer in existence |
| habitat | place where an organism lives |
| herbivore | a consumer that only eats plants |
| omnivore | an animal that eats both plants and animals |
| physical adaptation | a change in some part of the body that helps an organism survive in its environment |
| predator | an animal that hunts other animals for food |
| prey | an organism that is killed and eaten by another organism |
