Indigenous Peoples The first people to live in a place before others
mission a religious settlement set up to spread Christianity
charter a written document giving permission to form a colony
settlement a place where people move to live permanently
voyage a long journey, especially by sea
expedition a planned journey with a specific purpose
conquistador a Spanish explorer or soldier who claimed land in the Americas
