| formula | An equation that states a rule for the relationship between certain quantities. |
| equivalent equation | Equations that have the same solution. |
| solve an equation | The process of finding all values of the variable that make the equation a true statement. |
| consecutive integers | Integers in counting order. |
| multi-step equations | Equations with more than one operation. |
| number theory | The study of numbers and the relationships between them. |
| proportion | An equation of the form a/b = c/d stating that two ratios are equivalent. |
| rate | The ratio of two measurements having different units of measure. |
| ratio | A comparison of two numbers by division. |
| scale | A ratio or rate used when making a model of something that is too large or too small to be conveniently shown at actual size. |
