Inequality A mathematical sentence containing > or <
Negative Number A number less than zero
Integers The set of numbers {…–3, –2, –1, 0, 1, 2, 3…}
Absolute value Distance from zero
Addend A number that is added to another
Sum The result of an addition equation
Opposites Two numbers with the same distance from zero but on opposite sides of zero
Additive Inverses An integer and its opposite
Minuend The first number in a subtraction problem
Subtrahend The second number in a subtraction problem
Difference The result of a subtraction problem
Factor A number that is multiplied to another
Product The result of a multiplication equation
Dividend The first number in a division problem
Divisor The second number in a division problem
Quotient The result of a division problem
Mean A measure of center that is the average of the numbers in a set of data
Quadrant The regions into which the x- and y-axes separate the coordinate plane
