| Term | Definition |

| Hierarchy | A system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other according to status or authority. |
| Medieval | This is a European time period also known as “The Middle Ages”. It lasted about 1,000 years, from 476-1450. Life was very difficult for people as they had little knowledge and education, freedom or rights. |
| Imagery | Images that can be seen or imagined through words. |
| Nobles | Nobles were a highly respected group of loyal who were believed to be related to royalty during the Medieval Ages. |
| Identity | The elements that define who a person is. |
| Tradesman | Tradesmen were workers who specialized in specific skills such as building things out of metal or wood. |
| Clergy | The clergy in the Middle Ages were a powerful group of religious leaders. |
| Knights | A warrior from medieval times who protected a kingdom with fierce training and armor. |
| Courses | A dish, or set of dishes served together as part of a meal. |

| surfeit | Too much of something. |
