| Matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space. |
| Atoms | the smallest unit of matter that forms a chemical element and cannot be divided using any chemical means. |
| Chemical Reactions | a process in which the chemical structure of a substance changes, leading to the formation of a new substance with different properties |
| Reactants | a starting material in a chemical reaction that is consumed to form products. |
| Products | a substance that is formed as the result of a chemical reaction. |
| Chemical Equation | a symbolic representation of a chemical reaction, indicating the reactants and products in a reaction and the direction in which the reaction proceeds |
| Law of Conservation of Mass | mass in an isolated system is neither created nor destroyed by chemical reactions or physical transformations. |
| Photosynthesis | a set of chemical reactions that plants and other organisms use to make chemical energy in the form of sugar |
| Subscripts | a set of chemical reactions that plants and other organisms use to make chemical energy in the form of sugar |
| Coefficients | numerical values placed in front of chemical formulas in chemical equations to indicate the proportion of reactants and products |
| Chemical Symbol | a notation of one or two letters representing a chemical element. |
