Ch. 2 vocabulary practice for Pre-Algebra

absolute value the distance a number is from zero on the number line
additive inverse an integer and its opposite
coordinate a number that corresponds with a point on a number line
inductive reasoning making a conjecture based on a pattern of examples or past events
inequality a mathematical sentence that contains <, >, ≠, ⩽, ⩾
integer the whole numbers and their opposites
negative number a number less than zero
opposites two numbers with the same absolute value but different signs
positive number any number that is greater than zero
quadrant the four regions into which the x-axis and y-axis separate the coordinate plane
zero pair a positive tile paired with a negative tile
