Scientific Method

TermDefinition
Hypothesis a predicted solution to a problem; an educated guess
Theory a hypothesis that has been proven true, but is not yet believed by everyone
Law a theory believed to be true to everyone
Experiment a test used to prove OR disprove a hypothesis
Variable are any differences or changes in an experiment
Independent Variable the factor/thing that is being tested in the experiment. *intentional difference*
Dependent Variable measurable differences between the groups *data we collect*
Control constant conditions kept the same between both groups; rules that everyone follows.
Data the information collected during an experiment; usually measurable
Conclusion summary of your experiment; you will state if your hypothesis was correct and your proof
Application using the information in new situations; apply to new situations
