Math vocabulary

| Absolute Value | “The Absolute Value of a number a is its distance from 0 on a number line. The absolute value of a number a is written as |a|.” |
| Opposites | "Two numbers that have the same absolute value but have different signs.” |
| Integers | The numbers…, -3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3… consisting the of the negative integers, zero, and the positive integers. |
| Additive Inverse | The addictive inverse of a number a is its opposite, -a. The sum of a number and its addictive inverse is 0. |
| Natural Numbers | Natural numbers are all positive integers from 1 to infinity. They do not include zero, negative numbers, fractions, or decimals. |
| Rational Number | A number that can be written as a quotient of two integers. |
| Real Numbers | The set of all rational numbers and irrational numbers. |
| Whole Numbers | a number without fractions, an integer. |
| Repeating Decimals | a decimal fraction in which a figure or group of figures is repeated indefinitely, as in 0.666… or as in 1.851851851… |
| Terminating Decimals | a decimal in which the digits after the decimal point terminate. |
