| alliteration | the repetition of words with the same beginning sound |
| rhyme | two or more words that have the same ending sound |
| stanza | a division of a poem consisting of a series of lines arranged together usually in a repeating pattern of rhythm and rhyme |
| personification | a figure of speech in which objects are given human qualities |
| metaphor | a figure of speech comparing two things by stating that one thing is another |
| simile | a figure of speech comparing two things using like or as |
| repetition | using the same word or phrase over and over again |
| hyperbole | to make something seem larger or more important than it really is; an exaggeration |
| imagery | language that suggests how someone or something looks, sounds, feels, smells, or tastes; help create a mental picture in your mind |
| onomatopoeia | words that sound like the objects or actions they refer to |
