Life Science the study of all living things
Earth and Space Science the study of the earth and the forces that shape the earth’s surface
Physical Science the study of chemistry and physics
Observing using your senses to gather information about an object or event.
Inferring formulating assumptions or possible explanations based upon observations
Claim an answer to a question that has been investigated
Evidence Observations collected to support your claim
Reasoning A statement that connects the evidence to the claim
The Scientific Method a series of steps used to solve a problem:
hypothesis a suggested solution to a problem; a prediction; an educated guess
Conclusion a final summary that explains the data
constants the factors that are kept the same throughout the experiment
independent variable the factor that "I" the scientist, change in an experiment
dependent variable the factor that changes as a result of the independent variable changing; the "Data" collected
Quantitative data Data that is collected with tools
Qualitative Data Data that is collected using senses
