TermDefinition
Alternative currency A form of money created and used within a specific community or region to support local economies.
Barter The exchange of goods or services without using money.
Clients People who receive services or products from a business or organization (in exchange for money)
Community bank A local bank aimed at serving the financial needs of a specific community.
Community development bank A financial institution aimed at providing services to underserved communities to foster economic growth.
Development Economic growth and improvement in a community or region, often supported by local businesses and initiatives.
Legal tender The official currency recognized by a country's government for the payment of debts (for example: dollars in the USA, euros in Europe…).
Lending system A system through which financial institutions provide loans to individuals or businesses.
Loans Sums of money borrowed from financial institutions to be paid back with interest over time. (I borrow money from the bank = the bank lends me money)
Local economy The economic activities and interactions within a community or region.
Local projects Community-based initiatives that aim to foster economic or social improvement.
Manager A person responsible for overseeing and organizing the operations of a business or organization.
Microfinance banks Small financial institutions offering financial services such as loans and savings to low-income individuals or communities.
Negotiation The process of discussing terms or prices to reach an agreement, especially in business transactions.
Neighbourhood A community or district, often related to local economic activities.
Retailers Businesses or individuals that sell goods directly to consumers.
Service An act of providing help or support, frequently offered digitally in areas such as banking or government.
Shopkeeper A person who owns or manages a small retail business.
Social currencies Local currencies used within a community to promote trade and solidarity, often to encourage local spending.
Social policies Government actions designed to improve the welfare of society, especially in terms of economic and social development.
Solidarity-based economy An economic model focused on cooperation, fairness, and sustainability, in contrast to traditional capitalism.
Store A place where goods are sold, typically a small business.
Suppliers Companies that provide goods to retailers for resale, often in bulk at negotiated prices.
Supermarkets Large retail stores offering a wide variety of products, typically in bulk.
Capitalist model An economic system where trade, industry, and the means of production are largely or entirely privately owned and operated for profit.
