Chapter 1 Math Vocab
Math vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| Exponent | The exponent of a power tells the number of times the base gets multiplied by itself. |
| Base | The repeated factor in a power. 5^3 Five is the BASE. |
| Perfect Square | The square of a whole number. (Example 3^2 = 3 * 3= 9 ; it forms a perfect square) |
| Evaluate | To solve an expression using order of operations. |
| squared | Any number to the power of 2. (example 4^2) |
| Cubed | Any number to the power of 3. (example 5^3) |
| Factors | Numbers multiplied to get a product. (example: 3 x 6 = 18, 3 and 6 are the factors of 18) |
| Product | The answer to a multiplication sentence or problem. (Example: 3 x 6 = 18, 18 is the product.) |
| Numerical Expresision | An expression that only contains numbers and operations, no equal sign. |
| Order of Operations | The order you complete a problem with multiple operations. |
| Prime Number | a number greater than one and has exactly two factors; 1 and itself |
| Composite Number | a number that has more than two factors. |
| factor pairs | two numbers that you multiply to get a product. Ex: 2 x 7 are a factor pair for 14 |
| prime factorization | breaking a number down to it's prime factors |
