Unit 0: Scientific Method / Measurements / Lab Safety

Definition
law A statement that describes a pattern observed in the natural world. Newton's 3 Laws
theory A well tested explanation for experimental results.
independent variable The factor you want to test. The factor that is "changed" in a scientific experiment.
dependent variable The factor that is measured; the outcome.
mass A measurement that refers to the amount of matter that makes up an object.
accuracy Refers to how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value.
precision Refers to how close measurements of the same item are to each other.
qualitative Information that describes qualities or characteristics using words, not numbers.
quantitative Information that can be measured or counted using numbers.
hypothesis An educated guess or prediction that can be tested through experiments and observations.
