| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Coefficients | Numbers written in front of a chemical formula |
| Subscripts | a small character or number that is written below the line of text. It is commonly used to represent: The number of atoms in a chemical formula or the position of an element in a compound |
| Cations | An ion with a positive charge. It has fewer electrons than protons. |
| Anions | An ion with a negative charge. It has more electrons than protons. |
| Chemical Formula | Notation that shows the number and type of atoms in a molecule |
| Ions | An electrically charged atom or molecule. This means the atom or molecule has an unequal number of protons and electrons. |
| Chemical Bond | Forces that hold the atoms together in a molecule. They are a result of strong intramolecular interactions among the atoms of a molecule. |
| Compound | A substance made of two or more elements chemically bonded to each other in a fixed ratio. |
| Chemical Symbol | The abbreviations for elements |
| Periodic Table | The organized array of all the chemical elements in order of increasing atomic number |
| Molecule | An electrically neutral group of elements chemically bonded together |
| Atom | The basic building blocks of matter made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons |
| Elements | A pure substance composed of atoms that all have the same number of protons in the atomic nucleus. |
