Stages of Plot

TermDefinition
Exposition The beginning of a story, where we are introduced to the setting and characters.
Inciting Incident The event that forces the main character into the conflict/adventure/journey.
Rising Action The longest part of the story where the conflict becomes more intense for the main character.
Climax The most suspenseful moment, or turning point, of a story.
Falling Action The part where the conflict STARTS to get resolved.
Resolution The end, where it is revealed how everything turns out.
Protagonist The main character in a story.
Antagonist The character who works against the main character.
