WordDefinition
Communication the process of sending and reciving information
Effective Communication the message is understood by the reciver the way the sender intended
Sender the person giving the message, iniates the conversation
Reciever the person who recieves the communicated message; the listener
Message the information communicated by the sender to someone else
Feedback the recievers response to the sender's message
Channel the means by which the senders message us communicated
Encoding the process of the reciever interpreting or giving meaning to the message applied
Decoding the process of the reciever interpreting or giving meaning to the message applied
Interfernce anything that prevents the message from getting to the reciever
Situation the time and place in which the communication occurs
Verbal Communication your words or what you say
Technical Language words that relate to a specific subject or marked by specialization. Ex. Math; quadratic equation, hypotenuse, appothem
Regional Terms speech or words unique to a specific geographic area or region. Ex. soda-vs.-pop-vs.-coke
Slang Non standard language, informal vocabulary unique to a particualar group
Cultural Terms words related to a specific backround of people (can include but not limited to clothing, food, religion, musical instrument) Ex. yarmulke, sari, serape=clothing
Non Verbal Communication communication based on a persons use of voice and body
Vocal Variety variety in voice
Volume how loud/soft your voice is
Pitch how high/low you voice is
Inflection natural flutation of stresses
Rate how fast/slow you talk
Pause a slight stop in in communication used for effect
Personal Apperance the way you look
Kinesic study of movement
Gestures hand movements for emphasis/attraction
Eye contact looking at people
