Data Displays and Number Systems
| Term | Definition |

| Data | Information that is gathered by counting, measuring, questioning, or observing. |
| Statistics | The study of numerical data; collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to interpret it and answer questions |
| Variability | How spread out the values in a set of data are. |
| Statistical question | A question that would be answered by collecting or analyzing. |
| Range | The difference between the maximum and the minimum in a data set. It is a measure of how spread out a distribution is. |
| Dot Plot | a number line long enough to encompass all numbers in a sample, showing a dot for each of that number. |
| Maximum | highest or greatest amount or value. |
| Distribution | the distribution of data typically takes into account the range and spread of a data set. |
| Mode | in a set of scores, values or numbers the mode is the one that occurs the most. |
| Data Landmark | Finding the middle value by crossing out the numbers and then adding the 2 middle numbers together and finding the mean. |
| Minimum | lowest or least amount or value. |
| Median | a type of average which is the middle value of an ordered set of data values. |
