Data Displays and Number Systems

TermDefinition
Data Information that is gathered by counting, measuring, questioning, or observing.
Statistics The study of numerical data; collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to interpret it and answer questions
Variability How spread out the values in a set of data are.
Statistical question A question that would be answered by collecting or analyzing.
Range The difference between the maximum and the minimum in a data set. It is a measure of how spread out a distribution is.
Dot Plot a number line long enough to encompass all numbers in a sample, showing a dot for each of that number.
Maximum highest or greatest amount or value.
Distribution the distribution of data typically takes into account the range and spread of a data set.
Mode in a set of scores, values or numbers the mode is the one that occurs the most.
Data Landmark Finding the middle value by crossing out the numbers and then adding the 2 middle numbers together and finding the mean.
Minimum lowest or least amount or value.
Median a type of average which is the middle value of an ordered set of data values.
