Data Displays and Number Systems
| Term | Definition |

| Data | Information gathered by counting, questioning, or measuring. |
| Statistics | The study of numerical data. |
| Variability | How spread out the values in a set of data are. |
| Statistical Question | A question that would be answered by collecting or analyzing data. |
| Range | The difference between the maximum and minimum in a data set. It is a measure of how spread out a distribution is. |
| Dot Plot | a number line long enough to encompass all numbers in a sample, showing a dot over the position corresponding to each number. if more than one dot falls in the same position. |
| Landmark | A notable feature of a data set. Some landmarks are the mean, median, mode, maximum, minimum, and range. |
| Maximum | highest or greatest amount or value. |
| Minimum | lowest or least amount or value. |
| Distribution | The arrangement and frequency of data values in a data set. A distribution may be summarized with measures of center and variability. |
| Mode | a type of average. in a set of scores, values or numbers the mode is the one that occurs the most. |
