Data Displays and Number Systems
| Term | Definition |

| Data | Information that is gathered by counting, measuring, questioning, or observing |
| Statistics | The study of numerical data: collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to interpret it and and answer questions |
| Variability | How spread out the values in a set of data are |
| Statistical question | A question that would be answered by collecting or analyzing data |
| Range | The difference between the maximum and the minimum in the data set. It is a measure of how spread out a distribution is |
| Dot Plot | A number line long enough to encompass all numbers in a sample, showing a dot over the position corresponding to each number. |
| Maximum | Highest or greatest amount or value. |
| Distribution | The arrangement and frequency of data values in a data set. |
| Mode | A type of average. |
| Data Landmark | A notable feature of a data set |
| Minimum | Lowest or least amount or value. |
| Median | A type of average which is the middle value of an ordered set of data values. |
| Average | A number expressing the central or typical value in a set of data, in particular the mode, median, or (most commonly) the mean. |
| Mean | The average of a data set |
| Balance Point | The balance point is also known as the mean. |

| Outlier | A value far away from most of the rest in a set of data. |
| Histogram | A value far away from most of the rest in a set of data. |

| Cluster | Numbers which tend to crowd around a particular point in a set of data values. |
