Data Displays and Number Systems
| Term | Definition |

| Data | Information that is gathered by counting, measuring, questioning, or observing. |
| Statistics | The study of numerical data: collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to interpret it and answer questions. |
| Variability | How spread out the values in a set of data are. |
| Statistical Question | A question that would be answered by collecting or analyzing. |
| Range | The difference between the maximum and minimum in a data set. It is a measure of how spread out a distribution is. |
| Dot plot | A sketch of data in which marks, Xs, or other marks above a labeled line show the frequency of each value. |
| Maximum | The largest amount; the greatest number in a set of data. |
| Minimum | The smallest amount; the smallest number in a set of data. |
| Median | The middle value in a set of numerical data when the numbers are listed in order from smallest to largest, or from largest to smallest. if there are any even number of data points, it is the mean of the two middle values. It is a measure of value. |
| Mode | The value of values that occur most often in a data set. |

| Distribution | The arrangement and frequency of data values in a data set. It may be summarized with measures of center and variability. |
