Data Displays and Number Systems

TermDefinition
Data Information that is gathered by counting,measuring,questioning,or observing
Range The difference between the maximum and the minimum in a data set.It is a measure of how spread out a distribution is.
Statistics The study of numerical data:collecting,organizing, and analyzing data to interpret it and answer questions.
Statistical Question A question that would be answered by collecting or analyzing data.
Variability How spread out the values in a set of data are.
Dot Plot a number line long enough to encompass all numbers in a sample, showing a dot over the position corresponding to each number.
Data Landmark A notable feature of a data set. Some landmarks are the mean,median,mode,maximum,minimum, and range.
Distribution The arrangement and frequency of data values in a data set.
Maximum The largest amount; the greatest number in a data set..
Median The middle values in a set of numerical data when the numbers are listed in order from smallest to largest, or from largest to smallest.
Minimum The smallest amount; the smallest number in a data set.
Mode The value of values that occur most often in a data set.
