Data Displays and Number Systems
| Term | Definition |

| Data | Information that is gathered by counting,measuring,questioning,or observing |
| Range | The difference between the maximum and the minimum in a data set.It is a measure of how spread out a distribution is. |
| Statistics | The study of numerical data:collecting,organizing, and analyzing data to interpret it and answer questions. |
| Statistical Question | A question that would be answered by collecting or analyzing data. |
| Variability | How spread out the values in a set of data are. |
| Dot Plot | a number line long enough to encompass all numbers in a sample, showing a dot over the position corresponding to each number. |
| Data Landmark | A notable feature of a data set. Some landmarks are the mean,median,mode,maximum,minimum, and range. |
| Distribution | The arrangement and frequency of data values in a data set. |
| Maximum | The largest amount; the greatest number in a data set.. |
| Median | The middle values in a set of numerical data when the numbers are listed in order from smallest to largest, or from largest to smallest. |
| Minimum | The smallest amount; the smallest number in a data set. |
| Mode | The value of values that occur most often in a data set. |
