Data Displays and Number Systems
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Data | Information that is gathered by counting, measuring, questioning, or observing. |
Statistics | The study of numerical data: collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to interpret it and answer questions. |
Variability | How spread out the values in a set of data are. |
Statistical Question | A question that would be answered by collecting or analyzing data. |
Range | The difference between the maximum and the minimum in a data set. The range is how spread out a distribution is. |
Dot Plot | a number line long enough to encompass all numbers in a sample, showing a dot over the position corresponding to each number. |
Maximum | highest or greatest amount or value. |
Distribution | the distribution of data typically takes into account the range and spread of a data set. it describes the shape of a data set when displayed on a histogram. |
Mode | a type of average. in a set of scores, values or numbers the mode is the one that occurs the most. |
Data Landmark | A notable feature of a data set. Some landmarks are the mean, median, mode, maximum, minimum, range. |
