QuestionAnswer
What is energy Energy is the ability to do work it can be kinetic energy or potential
What is kinetic energy and an example energy of movement, examples - thermal, mechanical, eletrical, magnetic
What is potential energy and an example stored energy, examples- chemical, elastic, nuclear, gravitational
How is energy measured in Joules
What is static electricity Static electricity is the transfer of electrical energy from one charged particle to another- build up of an electrical charge on a surface, Lightning is an example
What is in an atom There is a nucleus with proton(positively charged) neutron(neutrally charged) and on the outer rings electrons negative charge
How does an atom become charged Electrons on valent shells can be knocked, rubbed or pulled of the valent shell
What is an insulator An insulator are materials that do not allow electrons to flow through them easily examples are rubber, plastic, glass- insulators can easily be charged by friction ( static electricity)
What is a conductor A conductor is materials that easily allow electrons to flow through them easily examples are most metals ( conductors can not be easily charged by friction cause they can escape)
Charge law Unlike charges attract, like charges repel
What is current electrictiy the continuous movement of electrons through a conductor
What is voltage Measured in volts -
What is resistance Measured in ohms Ω
What is current Current is measured in amperes ( A)
Ohm’s Law formula V= IR
Rearranged formula to find I I= V/R
Rearranged formula to find R R=V/I
Define a series circuit Series circuit is a circuit where the wires are connected end to end so the current has only one path to follow
Define a parallel circuit A circuit in which the components are connected across common points or junctions, providing multiple paths for the current.
Advantage & Disadvantage of series circuits Simple to design and build. BUT, If one component fails, the entire circuit stops working
Advantage & Disadvantage of parallel circuits If one component fails, the rest of the circuit can still function. BUT, More complex to design and build compared to series circuits.
What is a resistor Resistors: Components that limit or control the flow of electric current in a circuit. They convert electrical energy into heat.**

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
