| Volta | Turn of thought or argument |
| Conceit | A comparison between two very different ideas or object (EX: Marriage is like getting a root canal) |
| Metonymy | The name of an object or concept that is similar to a closely related object or concept. (EX: Crown and King) |
| Tautology | A statement that repeats an idea using near-synonymous morphemes, words, or phrases, effectively saying "the same thing twice". (EX: At that moment in time. Highest marks and top of her class) |
| Surrealism | A movement that strives to convey an idea through language and/or imagery that isn't connected logically. |
| Geneva School | A Swiss school of linguists who pioneered modern structural linguistics. |
| Ethos | The character and credibility of a group or individual. |
| Ananym | A pseudonym consisting of the real name spelt backwards. |
| Provincialism | Ideas and behavior that are typical of places outside of a country's capital city, and so may be deemed improper or unsophisticated. |
| Graveyard School | Founded by a group of pre-Romantic poets who empjasized subjects of death and sorrow in their poetry. |
