| simile | A comparison of two different things using "like" or "as". |
| metaphor | A comparison of two different things but it DOESN'T use like or as. It says something is/are something. |
| Personification | Language in writing where non-living things/objects are given human traits. |
| Alliteration | The repetition of sounds at the start of words- usually 3+ in a sentence. |
| Hyperbole | An exaggeration which is used for emphasis or humorous effect or dramatics. |
| Onomatopoeia | It is when a word means a given sound. |
| Idiom | A saying or phrase that means something very different from the actual words. |
| Pun | A play on words meant to be humorous where it uses the multiple meaning of words or various spellings. |
