| Term | Definition |

| Fatalism | The belief that all events are predetermined and therefore inevitable |
| Aphorism | A concise statement of a truth or principle |
| Palindrome | A word or phrase that is spelled the same backward and forward (EX: civic, radar, racecar) |
| Deictic | Terms used to denote words that rely on the context to be understood. (EX: Pass me that over there) |
| Epigram | A witty comment |
| Chiasmatic | Repeats/ Echoes similar ideas but by using different words |
| Sestina | A 6-stanza poem. 5 of which contain 6 lines, followed by a by 1 that contains 3 lines. (6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 3) |
| Envoy | A short stanza at the end of a poem |
| Pathetic fallacy | The attribution of human emotions to inanimate objects/ (EX: A cruel wind) |
| Enjambment | When a line in a poem runs onto the next line |
