Lit Crit Vocab 3

Set 3 (Vocab 21-30)

TermDefinition
Anaphora The repetition of words or phrases at the beginning of consecutive sentences or lines.
Cadence Rhythmic flow of a sequence of sounds or words.
Novel of Character The main focus is on the protagonist's thoughts, feelings, and motives.
Apheresis The removal of sounds from the beginning of a word; syllabic loss. (EX: 'cause, 'nt)
Nihilism Belief in nothing.
Anapest Unstressed, Unstressed, Stressed.
Ballad A poem or song narrating a story in short stanzas of 4 lines with abcb rhyme.
Aestheticism Reverence for beauty.
Assonance Repetition of vowel sounds.
Comic volta A shift in argument or thinking in a story that creates a comedic effect.
