| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Tangent of a Circle Theorem | when you have an exterior point outside a circle and you draw two different tangent lines through it, THEN the lengths of the lines from the exterior point to the points of tangency must be equal --> proven through congruent right triangles |
| Chord of a Circle Theorem | if you draw a line through the center of the circle that is perpendicular to a chord on the circle, THEN the line through the center must split the chord in half --> proven through congruent right triangles |
| Secant of a Circle | a line that pierces the circle (a chord is a line that is only inside the circle), but a secant goes through the circle and exits outside it. |
| Secant Angle Measures (Rule/Theorem) | If you draw two secants through a point outside the circle, then the angle between the two secants is equal to the (1/2) x (bigger arc - small arc) |
| Intersecting Chords Theorem | If you draw two chords through the same point inside the circle, then you can connect adjacent points to form two similar triangles --> using ratios of corresponding sides of similar triangles, you can prove the theorem |
| Secant-Secant Theorem | if you draw two secants through a point outside the circle, then the product of the length of a secant and its part outside the circle is equal to the product of the length of the other secant and its part outside the circle. |
| Secant-Tangent Theorem | If you draw a secant and a tangent through the same point outside the circle, then the product of the length of the secant and its part outside the circle is equal to the length of the tangent squared |
