what did Aristotle teach? Taught the "golden mean"
Who was sentenced to death for his teachings? Socrates
Who taught students that the universe followed the same laws that governed music and numbers? Pythagoras
Who did the Greeks worship as their chief god? Zeus
What Greek scientist is known as the "father of medicine?" Hippocrates
Why did Socrates disagree with the Sophists? The sophists earned their living by teaching. They believed there was no absolute good or evil. For instance; they believed that one way of life for one person might be wrong for another person. Although, Socrates also considered himself a teacher.
Sophacles- A great Athenian writer who stressed courage and understanding.
Hellenistic era- A time when Greek culture spread through the known world.
Sophists- Rejected the idea of absolute right or wrong.
Alexander- A commander in the army at age 16, and ruler at 20.
Stoics- Believed that happiness resulted from using reason.
Which Greek scientist concluded that the world was round? Eratosthenes.
How do the gods in Greek myths look and act? They have great powers but look and act like human beings.
The Parthenon- A Greek temple dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena.
