Vocabulary for Chemistry

TermDefinition
Stoichiometry Calculation of the quantities of reactants and products in a chemical reaction.
Mole ratio Tells you the relative amounts of reactants and products in a chemical reaction.
actual yield Mass of product obtained from a chemical reaction.
theoretical yield Amount of product stoichiometrically predicted to be present when a limiting reactant is used up.
percent yield Actual yield of a chemical reaction, expressed as a percentage of the theoretical yield.
limiting reactant The reactant that is used up completely in a reaction, limiting further chemical change.
excess reactant The reactant that is left over in a chemical reaction.
