What is the summary for Persephone? Persephone didn’t have a certain position to the Greek gods. She lived a quiet and peaceful life, until Hades, Gods of the Underworld kidnapped her. Zeus noticed Earth dying so he asked for Persephone back. Hades gave her a pomegranate to stay with him.
Allusion in Persephone and why is it used to connect with Antigone? Antigone alludes/connects to Persephone, when her parents/brothers die, she wishes to be dead to see her family.
What is the summary for Danae? Danae's dad male heirs/oracle told him that his daughter’s child will kill him & sent her to cave. Zeus (as rain/gold) met Danae/impregnated her. Acrisius put Danae/her child into a chest/casted them from sea. Danae/her child taken Seriphos/taken Dictys.
Allusion in Danae and why is it used to connect with Antigone? Danae's father shuts Danae up by locking her away in a tower or cave after hearing what was told to him from an oracle. The Chorus describes the fate that comes for Antigone. She was locked away where sunlight couldn't reach, like fate of Danae.
What is the summary for Niobe? Niobe brags about having many kids to Leto & his kids kill her kids. Amphion (dad)/Niobe’s kids were killed by Apollo after saying he would get revenge/dies after. Niobe was sad, flew to Siplyous/turned to stone as she commited suicide.
Allusion in Niobe and why is it used to connect with Antigone? Used as an allusion to show how Antigone makes a connection to Niobe’s lonely death to signify how Antigone as well misses her father. Niobe faces the death of a loved one, just like Antigone.
What is the summary for Dryas and Lycurgus? The father of Dryas kills him as he goes insane. The king thought his son was the trunk of ivy. Zeus punishes Lycurgus with blindness since his son is important to Zeus. It turns out Dionysus drove the king insane & the land dried up.
Allusion in Dryas and Lycurgus and why is it used to connect with Antigone? Lycurgus went against Dionysus by imprisonment of his followers and he made him go insane. It caused a lot of bad things. For Creon he/his son are arguing & Creon is trapping Antigone. He can't see his son because his son doesn't like what he did.
What is the summary for Dirce? Dirce was the wife of Lycus/punished for abandoning her children. Dirce didn't like her niece Amphion, as a result of Dirce’s hatred towards Amphion she was punished by her sons/they tied her to horns of a Bull.
Allusion in Dirce and why is it used to connect with Antigone? The allusion that Antigone makes to Dirce is trying to highlight for punishments that Dirce received for the hatred towards her niece.
What is the summary for the furies? The furies would harm whoever broke the law of nature/of the Gods by driving them mad. Alecto would punish crimes against the natural order, Megaera would punish marital infidelity, and as for Tisiphone she would punish who committed murder.
Allusion in the furies and why is it used to connect with Antigone? Antigone calls out to the furies at her death. She asks for them to give punishment to those who spread no pity and the ones who wrongly judged her this being Creon. It foreshadows that in the future he would be punished by the furies.
Summary for Tantalus Tantalus was welcomed by Zeus but he stole nectar and ambrosia and gave it to his people. He then offered his son Pelops as a sacrifice to the gods by cutting him up and making him into a soup for the gods.
Allusion in Tantalus/why is it used to connect with Antigone? The fathers actions lead to the death of their child In the myth of Tantalus he ends up killing his kid for a stew and in Antigone because of Oedipus’s actions his children died and this lead antigone to do something which will get her killed now.
