Annexation to seize territory and add it to one’s own.
Anschluss all Germans within the new German state.
Aryan a person of Caucasian race, not of Jewish descent (blue eyes, blonde hair); the “master race”.
Bismarck He was a German statesman, who lived between 1815-1898. He built up the navy and army and developed the war strategy, the Blitzkrieg.
Blitzkrieg lightning warfare
Collective Security to ensure that all parties are feeling secure and safe.
Communist a political system whereby all property is owned by the community.
Corvette a small warship designed for convoy escort duty; Canadian ship.
Economic Sanctions threatened economic penalties for disobeying the rules; decrease profitability.
Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer One People, One Empire, One Leader.
Fascist a political system whereby an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing government exists.
Genocide the deliberate killing of a very large number of people from a particular ethnic group or nation.
Japanese Internment (within Canada): From 1942 to 1949, Canada forcibly relocated and incarcerated over 22,000 Japanese Canadians over 90% of the total Japanese Canadian population from British Columbia in the name of "national security".
Hiroshima a Japanese city where the first atomic bomb was dropped
Holocaust the mass killing of Jewish prisoners during WWII
Imperialist a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through the use of military force.
Indoctrination to accept a set of beliefs uncritically through repeated instruction
Luftwaffe German air force
Partisan a strong (uncritical) supporter of a party, cause or person
Propaganda print material of a misleading or bias view point used to promote an opinion or cause (typically politically based).
Reich (Rike) German state
Right Wing the conservative section of a political system.
Sanction a threatened penalty for disobeying a law or rule. This measure is taken by a state to coerce another to conform.
“Seig Heil” Hail victory
Socialism a political theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned by the community as a whole.
Ultra Nationalist an extreme patriotic person; to an excessive degree.
USSR Union Soviet Socialist Republic (Russia, Soviets)
